Predator control

Predator attacks on farmed fish are inevitable due to the environment in which aquaculture companies operate.

Attacks from predators can cause high levels of stress in the farmed fish and damage resulting from attacks may lead to escapes.

Our primary objective is to prevent attacks by using passive control methods, such as anti-predator nets, both for birds and for marine mammals, and acoustic scarers where permitted. When attacks are too aggressive and persistent, exceptionally killing may be the only option. This is only ever carried out as a last resort and in accordance with relevant local regulations, where necessary by providing documentary evidence and obtaining a specific permit.
