In Marine Harvest we have a goal of zero escapes and great attention is given to ways of limiting escapes.
Fish that escape from the sea farms have a potential impact on biodiversity, mainly through possible interaction of farmed salmon with wild salmon. Escapes from farms do occasionally happen and, while it is a minute percentage of the total number of fish in farms, the numbers can be significant.
The economic disadvantage and the wish to produce fish on a sustainable basis both encourage us to use all available precautions to prevent escapes.
